The Barry Goldwater Scholarship is a highly competitive, merit-based award for outstanding students in Mathematics, the Natural Sciences, and Engineering who are interested in pursuing a career in research.
Sophomores and Juniors who have excellent academic records, outstanding letters of
recommendation, and a demonstrated interest in a potential for careers in these fields
are invited to apply.
San Diego State University can nominate up to four students each year.
The core of the Goldwater application is the presentation of a compelling research project, clearly and concisely communicated to fellow scientists in
two pages. This requires faculty input and multiple revisions.
